About Bansko

Map of Bulgaria Bansko, located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, is a centre of winter and summer tourism. Located at an altitude of 936m above sea level it provides a long ski season (December to May) as well as fantastic terrain for hiking, walking and climbing the rest of the year.

Bansko is a climatic mountain resort and the town is listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites. With a total ski run length of 65 kilometres covering 14 pistes and a ski season that lasts for five months.

The town and surrounding forests are also a centre for trekking, tourism, nature and over 100 cultural and historic monuments. The resort heartily welcomes the winter and summer tourist in equal measure and is also famed for it's annual Jazz festival in August.

View of the Pirin Mountains The mountains peaks soar to over 2900m and the breathtaking alpine beauty combined with the local area's history has resulted in Bansko's adoption as a Unesco World Heritage site.

Recent investment in winter sports infrastructure, including a new gondola lift built in 2003, has made the town one of the best developed Ski and Winter Resorts in Eastern Europe and is now amongst the best in Europe.

These developments, along with the construction of extensive housing and recreational facilities around the gondola have made Bansko a popular and growing destination.
